In their only back to back match of the 2013 season, Beamer bounced back big from an earlier loss to Kentwood and jumped on the Decatur Gators from the onset to win in straight sets, 25-8, 25-18, 25-7. The evening had the eerie feel of a potential upset as the heavily favored Titans we were without starting setter Mckenna Milholland and starting Middle Nia Alexander, both home sick. They were also still dealing with starting libero coming back from an ankle sprain and the rest of the squad still battling the flu bug. Thankfully, Catherine Miller stepped in and did a great job filling in as setter and Senior Megan Huff had a monster night impressing the Seattle University coaches who were in the crowd. Beamer finished the night with a 28 kills, and 28 aces. Yes, that is right 28 aces! Everyone on the squad chipped in on this win as coach Pat was able clear the bench and even played freshman Savana Service from the JV squad. Nice job Titans.
We played awesome considering that we were managing injury and illness all throughout the Varsity squad. Aliya just coming back from an ankle sprain, Reed and her wrist, Camryn, Nia, Mckenna, Leena and Jordan all battling the flu bug. Despite having only one healthy starter we played a great match against a very good Kentwood squad. There were lots of great kills on both sides of the ball, the intensity was great, we had some very exciting rallies and if we didn’t give up all those points on services aces we might have been able to pull out a set or two but instead we fell in straight sets losing 19-25, 20-25, 23-25 to the Conquerors. We gave up 14 service aces to Kentwood and that was the big difference in the match. Overall you have to be pleased with the way our team competed.
I love the Kent Classic tournament because it gives us a snapshot of where our team is with respect to some of the top high school programs in the state. Yesterday’s showing revealed that we have some work to do with our team. We played well in the morning pool but gave up some crucial runs and couldn’t recover, we played sporadic in the pm pool and struggled with our passing and made it difficult for us to take quality swings at the ball. We made a bunch of unforced errors that really hurt us. In bracket play we seemed to find our groove again and made it to bracket finals. We finished the tournament losing a 3 set thriller almost completing our comeback but falling short 13-15 in the last set. I really like our team this year, sometimes I forget that we are a pretty young team.
Last night our Todd Beamer JV squad got to see all of the players out on the court in last nights match! The girls have been working hard at practice to improve and it’s beginning to show! Congratulations to both Lady Titan teams for their wins last night!
The Beamer Lady Titans pick up a solid 3-0 win over the Jefferson Raiders tuesday. Beamer collected 32 kills, 13 aces and 3 blocks in a team effort sweeping the Raiders 25-14, 25-7, 25-17. Senior Megan Huff went on a tear at the serving line with 6 aces and added 7 kills. Junior Reed Copeland led the charge up the middle with 8 kills, and 2 blocks. Sophomore Nia Alexander finished with 6 kills from the middle. Kudos to Sophomore Mckenna Milholland finishing with 32 assists and Junior Zella Hanson contributing 2 kills and 2 aces. BTW, special thanks to our own Reed Copeland for starting the night off with her signing of the National Anthem!
The Beamer Lady Titans kicked off the 2013 season with a 3-0 win over 2A powerhouse Fife High School. Megan Huff led Beamer with 14 kills, 7 digs. Sophomore Camryn Skari added 6 kills, 5 digs. Tennesse transfer Reed Copleand also chipped in with 5 kills and 4 blocks. The Trojans are typically playoff bound and have won multiple State Championships in their long history and have a handful of talented players including standout Junior Eva Linden. This was a good start and good win for us! We are looking forward to continuing to improve!
Jamboree is a time to tinker with our lineup and test drive what we’ve been hard at work in the gym the past two weeks. We have some things to work on as does every other team but I am really pleased with what we are starting with. Started off with a loss to Bethel (16-25), a win against Mount Rainier (25-17), win against Franklin Pierce (25-8), loss against Kentwood (22-25), loss against Fife (23-25) and loss against GK (18-25); finishing with a 2-4 record at the jamboree.
Here are some photos of our September 8th hike up Rattlesnake Ridge out in Northbend!
We had a great time! View was awesome from above, although we did hear a lot of complaints on the way up!
Pictures tomorrow! Bring both uniforms and your picture packet! JV starts pictures at 3:30 and Varsity will start at 4.
We’ve been working hard these past couple of weeks and I’m excited to see how we measure up with some of the teams in our league. Jamboree is always exciting since it’s our first glimpse at the competition and our first test run. It gives us a chance to tinker with our line up. Get some rest girls! Bus leaves at 7:15 am…
